Afternoon Roundup
Barcelona Shirt Deal: The Catalan giants signed on a new shirt sponsor today: The Qatar foundation, for a record 125 million pounds over 5 years. I wonder if their away kit will still look like a mentos? In its 111-year history, Barcelona have never had a paying sponsor on the front of their kit, brandishing global do-gooder UNICEF for the last few. Conversely, The Qatar Foundation is sponsored wholly by the government of a Qatar, yet another move in establishing Qatar as a football powerhouse. Hilariously, The Qatar Foundation doesn’t even have a logo as of yet. I mean, Come on…Even TK has a logo for Oil’s sake!
Patrice Evra is still a Douche: The Manchester United and France left-back continues to follow-up his lamery from the World Cup with his recent inconsistent remarks. He is badmouthing Arsenal ahead of their clash on Monday night saying completely contradictory statements like “Personally, I believe if you are a big player you always respect your opponent and that is what we try to do,” followed up with, “At the end of the day, what is there for Arsenal? There is nothing. There are no trophies, there is nothing.” As the wise Bruno once inquired, ‘Do you Sink Consistency is important?’ Clearly not.
Thank you EPL Schedule: Rarely are there as many juicy matchups as this weekend’s fixture list. Weakened Chelsea travel up the road to White Heart Lane to take on resurgent Tottenham. Mid-table languishers Liverpool and Newcastle meet at St. James Park (featured in the masterpiece film Goal!). Thankfully these two clubs have storied histories and world-class fans to make up for their poor product on the pitch. Then, MNF takes a hold of England as League leaders Arsenal clash with Manchester United where the victor will stand alone atop the EPL. Some of the heroic Chilean miners will be in attendance as well, which (along with worldwide fame) is a fair reward for being stuck in a dark hole for 60 days. Enjoy!
