The Streak is Snapped—Bareclona’s run of 28 games without being defeated, a club record, is officially over as they lost to Real Betis 3-1 in the second leg of their matchup in the Copa del Rey. Barcelona fielded mostly regulars like Lionel Messi and Xavi, so this wasn’t some “B” team Betis beat up on. Impressive as it was though no one cared because Barcelona advanced to the semifinals of the tournament with an aggregate score of 6-3. All this game did was prove the old cliché that you can’t win ‘em all. Barcelona will come close to it though.
JPA and Bruce Arena reunite—Juan Pablo Angel has agreed to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy, reuniting him with Bruce Arena, the man that initially brought him to MLS with the Red Bulls. Angel will be the team’s third and final designated player. If the team got 17 goals from the inconsistent and erratic Edson Buddle last year, imagine what they could get proven goal scorer Angel.
Snowballfight—Sporting Kansas City has given fans the chance to interact with the team, setting up a snowball fight that started at noon. Dubbed on Twitter as #specialKCsnowmageddon, the contest will pit fans against Kei Kamara (who initiated the event), Michael Harrington, Matt Besler, Jon Kempin and broadcaster Dave Borchardt. I don’t know how many fans showed up, but the number of fans in Kansas City surely has to be more than those five right? I mean they are getting a brand new stadium. Putting the players team at even more of a disadvantage is Kamara himself. Everyone knows he isn’t very accurate…
