How do you make the MLS regular season more competitive? Let more teams into the playoffs. Yea, that makes sense.

MLS Playoffs Reformatted—Earlier in the offseason the league announced that the playoffs would expand to 10 teams. While some people are unhappy about the number of teams being allowed to participate, the league is moving forward with how it will be set up. In the new format, the top three teams from each conference are awarded automatic spots and will be joined by the next four best teams, regardless of conference. Those teams will face-off in two one-game play-ins, with the winners positioning themselves into the next, which will be played similar to the previous years.

Champions League rematch—The two teams that played in last year’s final, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, squared off again in the first leg of the second round of this year’s tournament with a different result. Mario Gomez scored in the 90th minute off a rebound to give Bayern a 1-0 edge.

In the other Champions League match, Manchester United and Marseille played to a draw.

Khedira hurtReal Madrid midfielder and German International Sami Khedira is out for three weeks because of a torn muscle in his left leg. He has started 27 of 32 games for the team, who sits five points behind Barcelona for first in the league standings.
